The present owners cherished their 1953 contemporary home designed by Mario Corbett, well known in the 1950s for his site-specific houses, largely in the San Francisco Bay area. The only example of his work in southern California — a floor plan that echoes the curvature of the access road — was sited near the ocean in a grove of towering redwood trees, and is sheathed in horizontal redwood siding. Large areas of glass, including a dramatic 48-foot long skylight, afford views of the forest-like setting and canopy. The project remedied chronic skylight leaks, redesigned the kitchen and master bedroom, with a minor addition brought major amenities to the master bath, created a home office, and generally restored the finishes and luster throughout the 3,100 sq. ft. building, all in harmony with the original. The architects also oversaw restoration of the redwood siding, a new driveway and site landscape.
