The 274-acre Murrieta Oaks planned community lies within the city of Murrieta, California, near the Greer Ranch property. Yet the two properties are quite different in their attributes: here, the elevation differential of the terrain is 290 feet, rising gradually from the south to a diagonal ridge before dropping again to the north. A freeway abuts the southeasterly boundary, opening the property to a denser residential mix. Thirty acres of parkland (11 percent of the site), in addition to that required by local use, provide facilities appealing to a wider public. The project offers mid-range residential choice established by thorough architectural guidelines, within a community master planned to preserve the site’s most significant natural features. Pedestrian trails that meander through the greenbelts offer access to the park for many of the neighborhoods. Wiehle-Carr was an integral collaborator in a planning team spearheaded by Taliesin Architects.
